The Secularization of Basically Everything and Everyone

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not wage battle according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying arguments and all arrogance raised against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.

Christian, biblically speaking there is no real argument against evil from anything other than the Bible. We cannot continue to take the bait of the myth of neutrality. We must be willing to divide and part ways. Our best arguments are not to be had in some sort of mutual interest approach with the worldly. What does Athens have to do with Jerusalem? Or what does light have in common with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14. The Gospel demands a lens and secularism demands a lens. They’re not the same lens.

America today is several levels deep in error. There is today so much Bible in Sodom, and so much wealth confused as blessing in Gomorrah. As a people, we don’t just deny truth, we have perverted it. We have plucked its beard and put a robe on it in mockery…mainly in places that call themselves churches. We have molded it to suit ourselves and now we as a people can’t tell our right hand from our left. Today, ostensible Christians have been duped by a Jesus of kindness over truth, emotion over Spirit, and a loveless loveliness. Or rather, of a kindness that is the only truth. Scripture has been abandoned. They deny the biblical reality that mankind is innately worthy of hell due to sin, and so for them it’s about catching more flies with honey than vinegar and their idolatrous Jesus (the devil himself) clearly says amen. I have seen it first hand for years. To many, conflict is purest sin and God will have none of it. Their god never hurts anyone’s feelings and bends reality like a Disney genie to any “well-wisher.” Their god’s heaven is lessened without sinners or has become altogether undesirable due to his intolerance. They would not follow any teacher who ever beat anyone out of a temple for hypocrisy. And that’s the point. They don’t. I’m terrified at the errors of it. And while I’ll always come away from conversations examining myself of pride or sinful divisiveness, I’ve resolved to understand that I’d be having these same worthy self-doubts in a prison cell alongside the Apostles. I am resolved to this. I have to remind myself that I’m not a better evangelist than my Savior who was wrongfully executed and hated. If people dislike what I’m saying, I need only ensure that what I’m saying is worthy of being disliked from Scripture.

It’s not politics. It’s not movements. It’s not side matters that should drive us. We are not fiscally driven, we’re love driven. 1 Corinthians 13. Love to God, love to others. Without truth, love is a monster. The Gospel is our main focus. We are not our own saviors, and no nation has a better way than God’s. Nations can’t be the church, but the church must be the church in every nation. The full counsel of God is our guide. The US Constitution is not enough. Any company’s motto is not enough. Your personal business ethics are not enough. The Bible is the ultimate safeguard. Whatever else is good beneath it, let us remember just how far beneath it they truly are. There is only one source of divine infallible revelation. We argue against what it argues against and we seek to bring it all into submission to Christ. That’s our churches, our relationships, our sexuality, our identity, our politics, our finances, our leaders, our all.

Secularism rigs the fight in a way far too many Christians seem to fall for. It wants to secularize every issue. Secularism can be defined as the loss of religious significance. The lying idea of the secularist is that if “religious people” would just stop dealing with issues “religiously” then we could all come to a better place. And Christians, too afraid to stand their ground already, or being unaware of Satan’s wiles in this, take the bait. They begin to process what Jesus says by some other idea or person. Feelings become hermeneutics. They secularize marriage, they secularize business, they secularize law, they secularize politics, and they secularize religion. And this is precisely what the secularist wants. It’s all they need to eventually win. It effectively takes the basketball player and puts him in a hockey rink. Christians start processing their thoughts as non-Christians. Suddenly, ethics aren’t “religious” issues and the murder of ~60,000,000 innocent people becomes “choice.” The profaning of marriage in the LGBT what not becomes a “right” and not at all any longer a matter of who actually defines marriage. The fight for the secularizing Christian against pedophilia will fall along with everything else once a few kids testify that they actually enjoy it. Then a doctor somewhere will show the “science” that an abused child’s brain is just as developed as one whose isn’t. Then a comedian will make a joke about it and every sitcom will have a pedophile character. The secular worldview will murder a million without batting an eye. It’s not better. It doesn’t love. It only hates.

Christians, you have to see the world for what it is…as God defines it. This does not come overnight, but it comes through the means he’s given us. You must see the world as he sees it. Otherwise, you’re seeing it wrongly.
