LBCF 1689 Reflections (part 64)

Reflections on the Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689. 23 Aug 14 began a perhaps unbroken, orderly, and personal journey through my favorite written confession of faith. This will be my personal reflections on this beloved written codification of the Christian Faith which is according to a Baptist flavor.

Chapter 5, Of Divine Providence, paragraph 4: “…and that not by a bare permission, which also he most wisely and powerfully boundeth, and otherwise ordereth and governeth, in a manifold dispensation to his most holy ends; yet so, as the sinfulness of their acts proceedeth only from the creatures, and not from God, who, being most holy and righteous, neither is nor can be the author or approver of sin.”
 
All evil comes from evil things. God designed it that way. Evil is not something evil things have, but hate. Evil is what evil things are.
 
God doesn’t merely “permit”. He ordains. All this talk in our day about God “permitting” things is incorrect. It may be semantics, but “ordain” is a much better word to use when the atoms spinning inside evil things only spin because he wills them to.
