Formal and Material Heresy (11 min)

It's good to know the difference between formal and material heresy. It's true that we cannot know for sure the exact heart condition of everyone we meet, even if they're part of a false religion. We just don't/can't always know. What's best is to judge the system of someone's false religion. If we know it's false then we should treat anyone who claims it as an outsider, and someone to witness to. Ask yourself this: "If a person became the master of religion "X" would that make them a child of God or a child of hell?" This, I believe, is safe, and allows us to deal with individuals as we find them.
