1 John Study (13 of 15). 1 John 5:1-8 (64 min)

Joseph Pittano

Today, we begin the last chapter in 1 John. John is intent to show the believer his or her surety in Christ. He uses one of his favorite words here again in our passages today- “overcomer.” While this word may be abused today, it’s a wonderful biblical word John uses over 20 times in his writings. I pray you see more about what “overcoming” means to a believer today. John also writes here about the amazing realities distinct to the Christian religion of true love- love to God, and love to each other. In our fulfillment of the Great Commission, we’re told to proclaim the truth (the Gospel) in the world. I hope you’re doing that in your life. There’s nothing more worthwhile. It is treasure laid up. Perhaps today’s talk will also help direct you more in that great work.

Going through these eight inspired verses together, we’ll talk about what obedience means to us and looks like in the heart. We’ll talk about some words in 1 John 5:7-8 and Bible versions (see link(s) below). We’ll look at what it means to be “born again” and more.

I hope you’re doing okay wherever you are in the world in this COVID-19 time. God bless!

Here’s a link the David Guzik online commentary I used today on Blueletterbible, and to which I referred you for further study: Commentary link. Many other commentaries there will comment on the same in 1 John 5:7-8.

God bless!!!
