1 Peter 3:15-16. Engaging Others as God's People, with God's Law, and with God's Gospel

Jul 29, 2025    Joseph Pittano

This was a part of a topical series taught at my church (Idlewild.org) to a group of our college and career aged members and friends. I got to come in on just this one part. My goal from 1 Peter 3:15-16 was to talk about addressing people both with the whole of our lives and also with our words. It’s us following God in season and out of season that makes us ready to take the message of life in Christ out to others. As we follow him, we also study how to best answer others, and this whole process is what makes us ready. We have to understand our hope in Christ to be able to defend that hope with someone else. I know of no better way to do that than the way the whole of God’s word shows us which is Law first then Gospel. I also wanted to talk about learning how to use the Law in our evangelism. We want people to consider the Cross, to come to him in repentance and faith to be saved, right? The Law of God, which he loves, is our best tool to do so. The Law saves none of us, but God uses it to open the heart to the Gospel.

God bless!!!
