The Bible and the Issue of Slavery. Part 1 (61 min)

This is part 1 of 2. It’s a short talk, but it’s been helpful to a lot of people. I pray so with you also. So often, because of the terrible history of slavery, many present the Biblical position on the subject as an endorsement of something like the African Slave Trade. This is sometimes done through a direct and intentional distortion of the Biblical text by those looking to discredit it. At other times it's done through misinformation or the misconstruction of any given text. In this message I want to talk about the Bible's position on slavery. I want to examine passages from both the Old and New Testaments to develop a more accurate picture of exactly what slavery is according to the Bible, and how men are commanded to treat each other in such a relationship.
