What a Calvinist Does With 1 Timothy 2:1-6 and 2 Peter 3:8-9

Joseph Pittano

Any mature Christian should believe that God’s word is inspired and inerrant. A preserved revelation. A solid disciple has the privilege of seeking after God’s wisdom in every jot and tittle of the book. So, what does a good Calvinist do with 1 Timothy 2:1-6 and 2 Peter 3:8-9? Well, he should do what he does with every other passage. He should seek to rightly understand them. I assure you, we don’t forget them! What I do with these passages may not be what all Calvinists do with them, of course, but here is a presentation on some of what I as a Calvinist do with them in a topical address. I will also talk some about the functions of systematic theology in our lives. I’m giving this talk in response to some recent presentations or interactions with some brothers who are what are called Provisionists. Provisionists are synergists. Provisionists assign profit to the flesh when none should be given. Some will deny this on its face, but their theology is inescapably synergistic. It is a modified form of semi-Pelagianism denying man’s deadness in sin and God’s free election. Synergistic error has its philosophical claws in many areas of many beliefs. It is not damnable heresy unless perhaps those who hold it condemn those who don’t, but it is a deficient and un-biblical philosophy in the end. I tried to keep this video brief. I’ll talk through just some of my theology on both of these passages. I hope it’s illuminating.

God bless!!!
