Scripture creates good systems of belief. We only have to do the work. And it takes work. 2 Timothy 2:15; Acts 20:32. In prayer, all of us should work to outline systems of theology that present no contradictions within them. We must do this if we’re working in our lives to appreciate all of God’s words to us. I firmly believe that we’re able to do this as we spend more time in each corner of the Bible’s tapestry, working to know every part intimately in and of itself, and also then how it relates to the whole. Because I believe in the wisdom of God, I simply cannot affirm a universal atonement. The view creates a gaping and glaring inconsistency in the Bible when we think it out. Here tonight, I want to talk on 1 John 2:2 and John 3:16 as we consider the wisdom of God and his intentionality in the Cross. Jesus came to save a known people. He knew them by name because he had chosen them in eternity past. The Christians in every generation come to know them as “everyone who believes.”
