Adoption

Title: Adoption
Message Description:

We don’t hear enough talk in our lives about adoption. It’s a wonderful biblical reality. Ultimately, we can use the word “adoption” as it’s delivered in Scripture as a synonym for the whole of our salvation. To be “in Christ” truly does mean to be an adopted son or daughter of God. It’s spoken of in several ways as a new citizenship. Our justification is a result of our adoption. Our sanctification is a result of our adoption. Our regeneration, I’d argue, is our adoption enacted. Our glorification is a result of our adoption. A Christian’s present standing in Christ is because of their adoption. In fact, because Paul says that God, “predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself…” I think it’s clear that God’s foreknowledge and predestination is in a sense his decision to adopt. “The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:35-36. This is the freedom of a Christian. Sons and daughters are made wonderfully and eternally free. I pray this message is a blessing to you today! God bless.

Below is a link to the sermon from Dr. DA Carson I mention in today’s sermon. It’s called, “How Long, O Lord? Steadying Our Soul in the Midst of the Storm.” It was delivered in 2016 at the Bethlehem Conference for Pastors and Church Leaders, and is made available to us by Desiring God. If we get this. If we learn to trust fully in Christ. Then that obedience changes everything: Sermon link.
