This presentation is designed to be a basic introduction into the Christian Faith. The Christian Faith is NOT just a summons into court, but a man must recognize his sin before he can appreciate the cross. However God works in our lives to bring us to himself, the knowledge of sin is surely resident in the heads and hearts of all believers. It is at the foot of a blood-stained cross that believers understand where their eternal life truly began. That’s where we must begin. We begin with the love of Jesus. We understand this love as an act of deliverance from sin.
The puritans (circa 1560-1650) had a great statement. They said, “Born once, die twice. Born twice, die once.” They said this because Jesus says that, “…unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of heaven,” John 3:3b, and because God calls being finally thrown into hell at the end of the ages a “second death” in Revelation 20:14, et al. All people, at some point in their lives, must be born of the Spirit to become children of God. Have you been born again? This is the only apt description of the reality of coming into faithful contact with the Lord Jesus Christ. Men are not born sons of God, but can become sons of God through this adoption. That happens in Christ alone. Those made to love God’s grace are literally “new creatures” according to Scripture, and have all their sins, past, present and future completely pardoned. This produces an active and vibrant pursuit of Christ that cannot ultimately be thwarted. It’s all because of the love of God and the power of the gospel.
