The source of the source

In response to the question, “God is perfect; explain?” Ravi Zacharias once answered: “God is the only being in existence whose reason for existence is within Himself.” I love this!
There’s a droll tension in my profession where each functional area or branch, in its own espirit de corps, boasts of its inherent importance over every other. It’s as old as the Army itself. The infantryman boasts that there’d be no need for the rest of the military if he did not exist. The logistician responds in proud cadence that the infantryman would only be able to fight with what he could carry if it weren’t for them, and so on. All claim the centerpiece. This is, of course, supposed to be in good sport.

Scripture repeatedly says that blood is the source or sustenance of life in the flesh, (See Leviticus 17:11, 14; Deuteronomy 12:23, et al). It is inextricably linked to material life. All of our organs and all of our life are sustained because of our blood (which holds the DNA) that makes and replenishes us. Blood (even though it too is a constituency) truly is it seems the elemental sine qua non of life in man or beast. It is the reason we live. If the blood is/was not there the heart is a dead organ. In blood is where God begins our physical life, Psalm 139:13. If the blood dries up or is lost then we’re done and the electricity of the brain fizzles out. This is not evolution. God designed it this way and for this reason the Bible gives blood a sacred station. It is life’s wellspring.

God Himself, however, is eternal Spirit, John 4:24. Prior to the birth of Jesus on earth He in no way had flesh and bones, Luke 24:39. Without God giving blood to Adam (like a charged battery to a device) we wouldn’t know life, Genesis 2:7. In this life, blood is man’s font, but it’s a created font. The chicken obviously came before the egg and God before the chicken. No blood could boast of its importance and no organ its role over any other if it were not constructed and supplied by the Lord. Without Him there would be no material existence. This entire universe exists as one of the thoughts of God. God is the first and last, Revelation 22:13. God is the first cause of everything. Nothing in itself can explain itself. He is the archegos: “Prince,” “pioneer” or “author” of life, Acts 3:15. He is the sine qua non, A.K.A. the “I AM.” He is not created, and does not facetiously claim the centerpiece. He’s God!

He’s awesome! He doesn’t receive a thing from us “…as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things,” Acts 17:25. He is happy, and completely God. God exists and is the source of all that we describe with words like “energy,” “matter,” or “time.” “It” only exists because of its source. What else then would you ever want than to know the source? That God became a Man: “…and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth,” John 1:14. He says “come,” Matthew 11:28. So come!

           Consider this: Worship Him!
